If you have an affinity for mind-bending riffs on quantum physics, you'll enjoy "Coherence." Superficially, the story is simple: a dinner-party among 4 couples of friends, that just happens to be on a night that a comet is blazing closer to Earth. Someone mentions a curious set of events during an earlier comet passage, about a century before, and how that affected a local population. Early on you can spot some slight "incoherences" coming from how characters exchange dialogues, and from the middle on, you start feeling spooked, as you start putting things together. Coherence is a fascinating sci-fi thriller that really messes with your head, in the best way. The story is smart, simple, and incredibly engaging. Watching the group slowly unravel as they realize they’re caught in a web of parallel realities was both tense and exciting. The twists kept me guessing, and the way everything ties together at the end made it feel like a puzzle worth solving. That said, the cinematography was a big letdown for me.
