Walter, the son of a shipowner, scoffs at a motorboat race and lets the boat of his father be helmed by Wan, a rough fisherman. Wan wins the race with it. Walter wants to seduce Rika, Wan’s fiancée, and when Wan catches them kissing, he sails out into the stormy sea in a small boat. Shortly after his rescue, he is murdered. Rika is maddened with grief but ultimately gives in to Walter’s love, after he narrowly escapes death by drowning.
