A lonely beach on the southernmost coast of Brazil is the scene for two friends, on the brink of adulthood, to explore their understanding of themselves and one another. Martin has been sent by his father to retrieve what appears to be an inheritance-related document from the family of his recently deceased and estranged grandfather. Tomaz accompanies him, seemingly hoping to regain some of their former closeness. The two boys shelter themselves in a glass house, in front of a cold and stormy sea.
The last 20 minutes or so of this redeem it to some extent; the first hour is a rather pedestrian affair as two young friends - Mateus Almada and Maurício Barcellos take a trip to stay by the sea following the death of Almada's grandfather. There is a chemistry between the two boys as they push the boundaries of their relationship; but it is an unnecessarily slow burn. Good film to look at, though; and the lead performances are genuine and engaging at the end.
This was a bit frustrating to watch, not so much for the story, but more for the camera work. I'm sure they were attempting a mood, but it didn't work well, out of focus at times, very bouncy and close-ups so extreme you couldn't tell what the characters were doing, even when the most important scene came, it was ruined by the camera. As for the story it wasn't bad, but it's basically a set up for the last ten minutes of the movie.
